Ahimsa (pronounced uh-him-sah) is a Buddhist and Hindu doctrine expressing belief in the sacredness of all living creatures and urges the avoidance of harm and injury to other beings. Ahimsa Footwear guarantees all our shoes and accessories are vegan, and is the first store in Colorado to offer a complete line of cruelty-free shoes and accessories. The quality products we carry contain no leather, fur, wool, or silk and all glues are free of animal products. Shop with confidence knowing no animals were harmed in the name of fashion. Nonetheless, you'll be surprised at the supple yet sturdy feel of the materials in our shoes.
Preserving the ecosystems on which other species depend is central to the idea of Ahimsa. We strive to offer eco-friendly shoes and accessories which incorporate such products as hemp, organic cotton, bamboo, and recycled tires and plastic bottles. To the extent they're available, we stock products produced locally. Our shopping bags are over 99% post-consumer recycled paper and the majority of our store fixtures are re-used instead of new. We are always on the look out for eco-friendly vegan wares and are hopeful that as people change their buying habits, rising awareness by manufacturers will allow us to expand our offerings.
As consumers we must pay care to the individuals whose hard work goes into what we wear. Everything in the store has an explicit pledge from the manufacturer that their products are produced in sweatshop-free workplaces. Some select brands are founded on the idea of fair labor practice. We stand in solidarity with companies who recognize that to overcome the hurdles in our future, working families must thrive and not worry for basic needs. Only under these conditions will consciousness rise.

Opened in November 2007, Ahimsa Footwear is vegan owned and operated. Owner Lisa Young knew the cure for the lack of quality, fashionable, low impact vegan footwear in the Rockies, and the store was born.
